What Can We Learn?
Although we don’t know the exact context behind why this man went off on his congregation, I think it is safe to say that we can learn at least two lessons from this:
- The camera is always on. I highly doubt this pastor wanted this video to spread on the internet. But in todays age, we have to realize that whether it’s in the video booth or somebody’s cell phone, our actions are always just a few seconds from going viral. Whether on stage or off, we have to realize that everything we do is always being watched and scrutinized.
- Saying “I love you” after verbally whipping someone doesn’t necessarily mean you spoke the truth in love. I believe in practicing church discipline. There are times when the Bible calls for us to rebuke sin and correct church members in love. But the stage is never a place to publicly call out a person by name for their sin. The loving thing to do is to pull them aside for a private discussion.
